Dave Schultz Memorial International set for Jan. 29-31 in Colorado Springs

Teams from around the globe will come to Sports Center I at U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. to compete in the 17th annual Dave Schultz Memorial International Wrestling Championships, Jan. 29-31.
At least fifteen different nations will be showcasing their elite skills in men’s and women’s freestyle, as well as Greco-Roman wrestling. The event is held in memory the late Dave Schultz, an Olympic and World champion for the United States who was an international ambassador of goodwill through sport.
Among the international teams expected to compete include Argentina, Bulgaria, Canada, Ecuador, Israel, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mexico, Moldova, Mongolia, Russia, Tajikistan, Slovakia, the United States and Ukraine.
The first session of the event will begin on Thursday, Jan. 29 at 9:00 a.m. with the Greco-Roman matches starting at 9:00 a.m., and will continue with Session II that afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
Men’s freestyle will begin at 9:00 a.m. the following day, Friday, Jan. 30, with their first session, and will continue with Session II at 4:00 p.m.
On the concluding day of the tournament, the women’s freestyle athletes will compete beginning at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 31. The action will continue that afternoon at 2:30 p.m. with Session II.
This year’s Dave Schultz Memorial is not to disappoint, with a number of outstanding athletes competing from around the world.
2014 Schultz Memorial champions from the USA last year included women’s freestylers Randi Miller (Colorado Springs, Colo./Army WCAP) and Helen Maroulis (Rockville, Md./Sunkist Kids). Men’s freestyle champions included Frank Molinaro (S. Plainfield, N.J./Nittany Lion WC), Jon Reader (Brookings, S.D./Sunkist Kids) and Tyrell Fortune (Portland Ore./Titan Mercury WC). Men’s Greco-Roman champions included Joe Betterman (Colorado Springs, Colo./Army WCAP), Kendrick Sanders (Homestead, Fla./NYAC/USOEC), Andrew Bisek (Colorado Springs, Colo./Minnesota Storm), Jordan Holm (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnesota Storm) and Robby Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo./NYAC).
Throughout the history of this popular international event, numerous World and Olympic champions and medalists from many countries have competed. Another strong field is expected this year.
Athletes may still register for this event. Participation in this event requires a UWW license. Licenses require submission of a headshot, copy of your passport and credit card information. The cost is $110-115 depending on the exchange rate on the day of purchase. Wrestlers who wish to compete in the 2015 Dave Schultz Memorial International must contact Jamie McNab (jmcnab@usawrestling.org) at USA Wrestling to purchase a UWW license.

Admission for high school students (with an I.D.) and senior citizens (65+) is $5 per day, with youth tickets (5-14 years old) being $4 per day. Coaches can get in free of charge with five paid wrestlers.
