The movie “Foxcatcher,” released by Sony Pictures, received five Academy Award nominations today.

Included are:

• Actor in a Leading Role for Steve Carell, who played John du Pont

• Actor in a Supporting Role for Mark Ruffalo, who played Dave Schultz

• Directing for director Bennett Miller

• Makeup and Hairstyling for Bill Corso and Dennis Liddiard

• Writing and Original Screenplay for Dan Gilroy

The 87th Academy Awards will be aired live on ABC on Sunday, February 22, at 7:00 p.m. Eastern time/4:00 p.m. Pacific Time.

‘Foxcatcher’ tells the story of Olympic champion wrestlers Mark Schultz and Dave Schultz, and follows their tragic story as members of Team Foxcatcher, a club created by du Pont family heir John E. Du Pont.

‘Foxcatcher’ was among the movies with multiple nominations. Only Birdman (9), The Grand Budapest Hotel (9), The Imitation Game (8), Boyhood (6) and American Sniper (6) had more nominations.

Director Miller was previously nominated for an Oscar for Directing in 2005 for ‘Capote.’ For ‘Foxcatcher,” he won the Best Director Award at the Cannes Film Festival, and a Special Distinction Award (which was shared with the cast and crew) from the Independent Spirit Awards.

Ruffalo was previously nominated for an Oscar for Actor in a Supporting Role for ‘The Kids are All Right’ in 2010. Carell has never been nominated for an Oscar.

The nomination for Makeup and Hairstyling for Bill Corso and Dennis Liddiard reflects the tremendous job the film did in making the actors appear like the characters, especially the main characters John du Pont, Dave Schultz and Mark Schultz. It is reported that it took hours to transform Carell into the likeness of du Pont, which was very realistic.

Last week, at the Golden Globe Awards, Foxcatcher was nominated for three awards, but did not receive any. Those nominations were Best Motion Picture, Drama, Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama for Steve Carell and Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for Mark Ruffalo.
