Gray dominates opening match, leading Mumbai to victory on first day of India Professional Wrestling League

NEW DELHI, India - Three-time World champion Adeline Gray was dominant in her opening match in the India Professional Wrestling League (PWL), leading her Mumbai team to a 43-26 win over Punjab in the first dual meet of the new league.
Gray defeated Belarus native Vasilisa Marzaliuk of the Punjab team 10-1 in her bout at 69+ kg. Marzaliuk was third in the 2012 and 2015 World Championships and was fifth in the 2012 Olympic Games.
“I beat Marzaliuk 10-1 and helped my team reach the first win in the dual. It was an exciting day full of unknowns and I am glad I had a great win,” said Gray.
Mumbai won five of the seven matches contested. Mumbai swept the three women’s matches, with 2015 World bronze medalist Odunayo Adekuoroye of Nigeria winning at 53 kg and India’s Sakshi Malik scoring a victory at 58 kg.
Four men’s matches were held, with each team winning two bouts. Winners for Mumbai were Georgian wrestlers Elizbar Odikadze at 97 kg and Levan Berianidze at 125 kg. Winning bouts for Punjab were 2015 World champion Vladimir Khichegashvili of Georgia at 57 kg and 2013 Commonwealth Games champion Parveen Rana of India at 74 kg.
Two scheduled bouts were not contested, at 48 kg in women’s freestyle and 65 kg in men’s freestyle.
According to a report from ZeeNews of India, “Mumbai skipper Gray said that they were happy with the win and are confident of winning the league in its inception year.”
