Burroughs No. 1, Metcalf No. 2 as 10 U.S. men are in UWW Freestyle World rankings for August

United World Wrestling released its newest men’s freestyle World rankings for August.
There are 10 American wrestlers in this month’s rankings among the top 20 in their weight classes, an increase from six Americans in last month’s rankings
For the second straight month, Olympic champion and two-time World Champion Jordan Burroughs (Lincoln, Neb./Sunkist Kids) held down No. 1 at 74 kg. Burroughs won a gold medal at the Pan American Games in July.
Moving up to No. 2 at 65 kg is Brent Metcalf (Iowa City, Iowa (New York AC/Hawkeye WC), who was also a gold medalist at the Pan American Games. Metcalf had been No. 5 for three straight months.
The USA has eight other wrestlers in the rankings, all falling between No. 15 and No. 20. Of these wrestlers, five are new to the UWW World rankings this month.
2015 World Team member Kyle Snyder (Woodbine, Md./Titan Mercury WC/Ohio RTC) appeared in the rankings for the first time, at No. 15 at 96 kg. Snyder was a Pan American Games champion in July.
Also new to the rankings is 2015 World Team member James Green (Lincoln, Neb./Titan Mercury WC), who comes in at No. 16 at 70 kg. Green won a gold medal at the Grand Prix of Spain, then won a Special Wrestle-off for the U.S. World Team spot against U.S. Open champion Nick Marable in July.
Other 2015 U.S. World Team members in the rankings are Tervel Dlagnev (Columbus, Ohio/Sunkist Kids/Ohio RTC), who is at No. 16 at 125 kg, Tony Ramos (Iowa City, Iowa/Titan Mercury WC/Hawkeye WC), ranked at No. 17 at 57 kg and Jake Herbert (Ann Arbor, Mich./New York AC/Cliff Keen WC), listed at No. 19 at 86 kg.
Dlagnev and Ramos did not compete in July. Herbert won a silver medal at the Pan American Games.
Moving up one spot in the rankings was Zach Rey (Bethlehem, Pa./Lehigh Valley AC), now at No. 17 at 125 kg. Rey won a gold medal at the Pan American Games.
New to the rankings this month were David Taylor (State College, Pa./Nittany Lion WC), who is No. 17 at 74 kg and Wynn Michalak (Champaign, Ill./Titan Mercury WC), ranked No. 20 at 96 kg. Taylor won a gold at the Stepan Sargysyan Cup in Armenia, while Michalak won a title at the Grand Prix of Spain.
Ranked in July, but not appearing in the August rankings was Dustin Schlatter (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnesota Storm) at 70 kg.
