BALTIMORE, MARYLAND (APRIL 28, 2015) – Beat The Streets- Baltimore is a leading organization working to keep youth from violence through education mentorship and sports.
Today, our staff and board of directors are saddened by the events of the last 3 weeks from the death of Freddie Gray as well as the 179 murders of people within this city. BTS - Baltimore stays committed to building our city through proactive ways such as education, mentoring and sports.
The actions of a few that cast a shadow over so many. It is on us the leadership of this city to stop with reactionary practices and work in proactive ways.
Beat the Streets - Baltimore, along with our partners at USA Wrestling, are committed to making sure our youth have positive and affirming places to stay out of harms way year long. It is on us as a community to further support programs that are aimed at building a community that is not just talking with youth but actively engaging them to work with mentors and exposing them to things past the confines for a few square blocks that they have been trapped in for so many years.
We are calling on city, state and other officials to become proactive in helping our youth gain positive experiences and giving them a place to participate so that we do not have events like this again.
