U.S. sending strong teams to Pan American Championships in Santiago, Chile, April 24-26

Two-time Olympian Spenser Mango, shown at the 2014 World Championships, is among the top stars on the 2015 U.S. Pan American Championships team.
The United States will send strong teams in all three Olympic styles to the Pan American Championships, set for Santiago, Chile, April 24-26. The event features the nations from North, Central and South America.
This is the final qualifying event for the 2015 Pan American Games, which will be hosted in Toronto, Canada, July 15-18.
Currently, the United States has qualified for the Pan American Games in five of the 18 Olympic weight classes. Those qualified weight classes are 48 kg in women’s freestyle, 75 kg in Greco-Roman and three men’s freestyle weight classes (57 kg, 74 kg, and 125 kg).
To qualify at the other 13 weight classes, the USA must place in the top five at that weight in Santiago.
The weights which the USA must still qualify for the Pan American Games are:
• 53 kg, 58 kg, 63 kg, 69 kg and 75 kg in women’s freestyle
• 59 kg, 66 kg, 85 kg, 98 kg and 130 kg in Greco-Roman
• 65 kg, 86 kg and 97 kg in men’s freestyle
The U.S. Greco-Roman team will feature four members of the 2014 U.S. World Team: Spenser Mango (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army WCAP) at 59 kg/130 lbs., Joe Rau (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnesota Storm) at 80 kg/176 lbs., Caylor Williams (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army WCAP) at 98 kg/215 lbs. and Robbie Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) at 130 kg/286 lbs.
Mango, a two-time Olympian, has been on five World Teams, placing fifth at the 2013 and 2014 World Championships. Williams and Smith have been on the last two U.S. World Teams.
The rest of the U.S. Greco-Roman lineup features young stars Alejandro Sancho (Miami, Fla./New York AC/USOTS) at 66 kg/145.5 lbs., Pat Smith (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnesota Storm) at 71 kg/156.5 lbs., Mason Manville (Colorado Springs, Colo./Minnesota Storm) at 75 kg/165 lbs. and Gabe Dean (Lowell, Mich./Titan Mercury WC/Finger Lakes WC) at 85 kg/185 lbs. Smith was second at the 2014 U.S. Open. Manville was a Cadet World champion in freestyle and Youth Olympic Games silver medalist in Greco-Roman. Dean won a 2015 NCAA title for Cornell University.
The U.S. women’s freestyle team is led by 2012 Olympian and two-time World team member Kelsey Campbell (Tempe, Ariz./Sunkist Kids) at 58 kg/128 lbs.
Two members of the 2013 U.S. World Team will also compete, Victoria Anthony (Huntington Beach, Calif./Titan Mercury WC) at 48 kg/105.5 lbs. and Veronica Carlson (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) at 69 kg/152 lbs. Anthony was a two-time Junior World champion, while Carlson won a Junior World silver medal.
Also competing are 2014 U.S. Open champions Jennifer Page (Colorado Springs, Colo./Titan Mercury WC) at 60 kg/132 lbs. and Jackie Cataline (Alhambra, Calif./Titan Mercury WC) at 75 kg/165 lbs. Page was a 2013 Junior World bronze medalist. Three top young stars round out the roster, Carlene Sluberski (Fredonia, N.Y./New York AC) at 51 kg/116.5 lbs., Sarah Hildebrandt (Granger, Ind./King Univ.) at 55 kg/121 lbs. and Amanda Hendey (Beaumont, Calif./Titan Mercury WC) at 63 kg/138.75 lbs.
The men’s freestyle team includes four past NCAA champions, Dustin Schlatter (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnesota Storm) at 70 kg/154 lbs., Chris Perry (Stillwater, Okla./Titan Mercury WC) at 86 kg/189 lbs., Dustin Kilgore (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) at 97 kg/213 lbs. and Zach Rey (Bethlehem, Pa./Lehigh Valley AC) at 125 kg/275 lbs. Schlatter won his NCAA title for Minnesota, Perry for Oklahoma State, Kilgore for Kent State and Rey for Lehigh. Schlatter was a member of the 2009 U.S. Senior World Team.
2014 University World champion Tyler Caldwell (Stillwater, Okla./Sunkist Kids) is entered at 74 kg/163 lbs. Also on the men’s freestyle squad are Zach Sanders (Minneapolis, Minn. (Minnesota Storm) at 57 kg/125.5 lbs., Andrew Hochstrasser (Boise, Idaho (Titan Mercury WC) at 61 kg/134 lbs. and Jason Chamberlain (Lincoln, Neb. (Titan Mercury WC) at 65 kg/143 lbs. Sanders was a 2012 University World silver medalist.
Americans competing who were 2014 Pan American Championships gold medalists include Zach Sanders, Andrew Hochstrasser and Zach Rey in men’s freestyle and Victoria Anthony in women’s freestyle. Rey has won the last two Pan American Championships golds (2013 and 2014).
