Miller, Lampe, Maroulis and Burkert receive draws for World Championships in Uzbekistan

2008 Olympic bronze medalist Randi Miller will compete in her first Senior World Championships at 69 kg on Wednesday.
The first four U.S. women wrestlers have weighed in and received their draws for the 2014 World Wrestling Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Competing in her first Senior World Championships is 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Randi Miller (Colorado Springs, Colo./Army WCAP) at 69 kg /152 lbs. She drew Agnieszka Wieszczek-Kordus of Poland, who was also a 2008 Olympic bronze medalist. Miller won her Olympic medal at 63 kg, while Wieszczek-Kordus got hers at 72 kg.
“Randi has had a great year. She has come back full force. She has competed well and has been consistent. Randi has already been at this level. She won a medal at the Olympic Games in 2008. Her expectations are very high,” said National Women’s Coach Terry Steiner.
Two-time World bronze medalist Alyssa Lampe (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) opens at 48 kg/105.5 lbs. against Narangel Erdenesukh of Mongolia, who was second in the 2014 Asian Championships.
“Not just with Alyssa, but with all of them, it’s about focusing moment to moment. We must go out with the right mindset and attitude and be willing to fight for points. If Alyssa is willing to do that, she will be in any match,” said Steiner.
2012 World silver medalist Helen Maroulis (Tempe, Ariz./Sunkist Kids) will face Elverine Jimenez of Nicaragua in her first match at 55 kg/121 lbs.
“She has had some great camps. She is ready to compete this week. It is about getting out there and using what you have, utilizing her tools and skills. Helen has a lot of ways to score points and is very effective when here offense and motion are going. It is about getting out there and letting herself flow,” said Steiner.
Jenna Burkert (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) opens her first Senior World Championships at 60 kg/132 lbs. against Katsuki Sakagami of Japan, who placed second in the 2014 FILA Golden Grand Prix Finals.
“You have to get out there and fight with attitude. You have to expect to be in the medal rounds and expect to stand on that podium. You can’t come out hoping. She has to come out expecting that, with the right attitude to fight for it,” said Steiner.
The USA has been third at the World Championships for the last two years, and is seeking to move up higher in the standings.
“Training has been good. Our camps have been good. We seem real focused right now. We are healthy. Our attitude is good. Now it’s time to do the job,” said Steiner.
