Mealey named OW as 15 High School champions crowned on Day 1 of Las Vegas Royal Crush

High School aged wrestlers from 11 states battled it out at the Riviera Hotel & Casino for the 2014 Las Vegas Royal Crush. The Royal Crush is the newest event in USA Wrestling’s Folkstyle Tour of America, with tremendous local support for the event coming from the Southern Nevada Wrestling Association.
Jerry Mealey, a junior at Corbit High School in Portland, Oregon, represented the Cobra All-Stars Wrestling Club at the Royal Crush in an impressive 5 pin afternoon at 120 pounds. In addition to the singlet and t-shirt all high school champions received, Mealey’s efforts also earned him the honor of Outstanding Wrestler for the high school division.
Also participating in the event was 2014 USA Wrestling Triple Crown winner and 1st place finisher in the 2013-14 Future Olympian Rankings Randon Miranda of Stealth Wrestling Club. Miranda, now a senior at Quartz Hill High School near Antelope Valley, California, dominated the 100 pound weight class with a pin and two tech falls, including a tech in the championship match over a tough Riley Gurr of Tri Cities Wrestling Club in Kennewick, Washington.
On Sunday. part two of the event takes place as Bantam through Middle School aged wrestlers take the stage. Wrestlers from 13 states have preregistered for these age groups, anxiously awaiting the start to their seasons.
Following the Royal Crush the Folkstyle Tour of America heads to Washington for the popular Northwest Bigfoot Battle in Spokane, November 21-22.
