Session pairings and webcast set for Greco-Roman World Cup in Iran, May 15-16

FILA, the international wrestling federation, has announced the pairings by session for the 2014 Greco-Roman World Cup, set for Tehran, Iran, May 15-16.


The United States is in Group A, along with Russia, Hungary, Kazakhstan and Turkey. Group A competition will be held on Thursday.


The USA opens with Turkey, who was No. 7 in the World in 2013, in round one. Next up will be Hungary, No. 3 in the world, in round two. Team USA has a bye in round three. In round four, the USA faces World Team champion Russia. Team USA closes out Group A competition on Thursday with No. 6 Kazakhstan in round five.


Pool B will also compete on Thursday, featuring No. 2 Korea, No. 4 Armenia, No. 5 Azerbaijan, No. 8 Iran and No. 10 Finland.


FILA has also announced that the Greco-Roman World Cup will have a live webstream which fans around the world can enjoy.

Please note that Tehran time is 8 ½ hours ahead of the U.S. Eastern time zone.


The medal matches will be held on Friday, with the pairings set by the placement of each team within its pool.

The U.S. team features four of the 2014 Greco-Roman Open national champions : RaVaughn Perkins (Omaha, Neb./ReadyRP National) at 66 kg/145.5 lbs., Andrew Bisek (Colorado Springs, Colo./Minnesota Storm) at 75 kg/ 165 lbs., Jordan Holm (Minneapolis, Minn (Minnesota Storm) at 85 kg/187 lbs. and Robby Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo./NYAC) at 130 kg/286 lbs.


Rounding out the U.S. team is Ryan Mango (Palo Alto, Calif./Cardinal Wrestling Club) at 59 kg/130 lbs., Patrick Smith (Minneapolis, Minn. (Minnesota Storm) at 71 kg/156 lbs., Geordan Speiller (Oviedo, Fla/Florida Jets) at 80 kg/176 lbs. and Daren Burns (Boone, N.C./AppState RTC) at 98 kg/216 lbs.
