Pataky, Pami receive freestyle wildcards for Phase II World Team Trials in Fargo, N.D., July 24

USA Wrestling has awarded two wildcards in men’s freestyle for the Phase II World Team Trials which will be held in Fargo, N.D. on July 24, one in each of the weight classes being contested.


The freestyle wildcard at 61 kg/134 lbs. is Brad Pataky (New Windsor, N.Y./New York AC/West Point WC). Pataky, who competed for Penn State, competed in the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials and was seventh in the 2008 University World Championships. He was fourth at the 2013 Guelph Open.


The freestyle wildcard at 70 kg/154 lbs. is Chase Pami (Champaign, Ill./Sunkist Kids). Pami was fifth in the 2013 U.S. Open and competed in the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Most recently, Pami was fifth at the 2014 Medved International in Belarus.


Athletes had to apply for Phase II wildcards. Selections were made by a wildcard selection committee, which reviewed the recommendations of USA Wrestling’s National Freestyle Coaches.


The Phase II World Team Trials will also be held in Fargo for women’s freestyle on Saturday, July 19 and for Greco-Roman on Tuesday, July 22.
