U.S. to send talented teams to Junior Pan American Championships in Canada, June 27-29

The United States will send a talented team of men and women wrestlers to the Junior Pan American Championships at Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, June 27-29. The host city is in the Toronto area. This is the annual championships in the Olympic styles for athletes 17-20 years old from North, Central and South America.


The U.S. men athletes will compete in both freestyle and Greco-Roman at the Pan American Junior Championships.


The men’s team includes FILA Junior World Team Trials freestyle champion Anthony Valencia at 74 kg, and FILA Junior World Team Trials freestyle runner-up Ricky Robertson at 84 kg/185 lbs.


In addition, the men’s team features a number of Div. I college wrestlers: Trey Andrews of Northern Colorado at 55 kg, Joshua Rodriguez of North Dakota State at 60 kg, Jake Short of Minnesota at 66 kg, Ricky Robertson of Wisconsin at 84 kg and Troy Hembury of Columbia at 96 kg.


The entire women’s freestyle team placed either second or true second at the 2014 Body Bar FILA Junior Nationals in Irving, Texas in May.


In addition, the women’s team features four top college wrestlers, Megan Black of King at 55 kg, Gabrielle Weyhrich of McKendree at 59 kg, Olivia Seppinni of McKendree at 63 kg and Mary Westman of Jamestown at 72 kg.


The women’s team features 2013 FILA Cadet World silver medalist Regina Doi at 44 kg.


In 2013, the USA placed first as a team in both men’s freestyle and women’s freestyle, and was second as a team in Greco-Roman at the Junior Pan American Championships held in Santiago, Chile.
