Klippan Lady Open FILA Cadet Day One Results, Senior Draws Released

Modesto, California’s Sariyah Jones kicked off competition at the Klippan Lady Open for the United States women in Klippan, Sweden at 46 kg/101 lbs. in the FILA Cadet division.

Jones posted a 0-1 record on the day, dropping her only match to Anastasia Sizenko (Russia) by technical fall 15-4. The American remains in medal contention benefitting from the double elimination bracketing system being used in the FILA Cadet division at the Klippan Lady Open.

 Jones would receive a bye in the next round propelling her to round three of the tournament where she will go up against another tough Russian competitor Veronika Gurskaya tomorrow.

The final rounds of the FILA Cadet division will be wrestled tomorrow morning alongside the Senior division.

Team USA will have a total of 28 athletes competing in the Senior division in Sweden including past Olympic bronze medalist’s Randi Miller (Colorado Springs, Colo. U.S. Army) at 69 kg/152 lbs. and Clarissa Chun (Columbia, Mo.) at 48 kg/105.5 lbs.

2012 Olympian Kelsey Campbell (Colorado Springs, Colo. Sunkist Kids) will continue her comeback season, competing at 58 kg/127.75 lbs. for the USA in Klippan, Sweden.

Other past World medalists for the U.S. entered to wrestle in Sweden are 2012 World champion and three-time World medalist Adeline Gray (Colorado Springs, Colo. New York AC) at 75 kg/165 lbs., 2012 World silver medalist Helen Maroulis (Rockville, Md. Sunkist Kids) at 55 kg/121.5 lbs., and two-time World bronze medalist Alyssa Lampe (Colorado Springs, Colo. Sunkist Kids) at 48 kg/105.5 lbs.

2013 World Team members Victoria Anthony (Huntington Beach, Calif. Sunkist Kids), Alli Ragan (Carbondale, Ill. New York AC/King University) and Veronica Carlson (Colorado Springs, Colo. New York AC) will also be competing over the next two days at the Klippan Lady Open.

Those Americans competing in the Senior division have all weighed in a received their respective draws for round one of the Klippan Lady Open.

Notable first round matchups include Helen Maroulis squaring off against reigning World silver medalist and rival Sofia Mattsson of Sweden at 55 kg/121.5 lbs., Julia Salata taking on 2012 World silver medalist of Canada Dorothy Yeats and two American powers at 69 kg/152 lbs., Randi Miller and Veronica Carlson, will also do battle in round one.

The Senior tournament will span over two days beginning at 9:00 a.m. local time/3:00 a.m. EST on March 1.
