USOEC beats U.S. Navy, 9-3 in dual meet at Northern Michigan

MARQUETTE, Mich. - The United States Olympic Education Center wrestling team defeated Navy, 9-3, in an exhibition dual meet in Greco-Roman and freestyle Tuesday night at Northern Michigan University.
Claiming two victories for the USOEC was Brandon Rice (Washington, Ill.) at 66 kg/145.5 lbs. In his Greco-Roman match, he won by a technical fall against Steven Martinez of Navy 9-0. In his freestyle match, he won at 70 kg/154 lbs. by a decision of 6-1 against John Carnes.
Another USOEC win by a technical fall came from Thrasher Porcher (Chuluota, Fla.) at 66 kg/145.5 lbs. of the USOEC against Navy’s Kevin Rayford in Greco-Roman.
Navy pulled out two wins in Greco-Roman. At 59 kg/ 130 lbs., Sheldon Wilder pinned Jason Chudzinkski (Colonie, N.Y.) in 2:30. Clayton Cook claimed Navy’s second victory at 75 kg /165 lbs., by a 21-13 decision against Dillon Cowan (Harvard, Ill.).
In freestyle the USOEC won two matches by technical fall, both 10-0 decisions. Sammy Jones (Folsom, La.) at 61 kg/134 lbs., beat Navy’s Justin Nolan, while Sergio Guerrero (Rubidoux, Calif.) at 74 kg153 lbs. won against Navy’s Scott Ricker.
Navy’s only win in freestyle came from Whit Dawkins at 61 kg/134 lbs, who defeated USOEC’s Shawn McIntyre (Bethel, Ark.) by a decision, 14-10.
