LAS VEGAS – Alyssa Lampe has earned bronze medals at the last two World Championships.
Now she’s ready to make a run at gold.
Lampe capped a superb tournament by rolling past 2013 World Team member Victoria Anthony in the finals of the U.S. Open on Saturday night at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Lampe took charge early in scoring a 10-0 technical fall in the women’s freestyle finals. Lampe won her second straight Open title.
“I plan on being done wrestling in 2016, so this is the time to get it done,” Lampe said. “I just need to keep working hard and not let things get me rattled.”
Lampe was one of eight women’s champions crowned on Saturday night.
The top seven wrestlers in each Olympic weight class qualify for the U.S. World Team Trials on May 31-June 1 in Madison, Wis.
