NEW YORK, N.Y. – Seven American wrestlers won gold medals in the women’s freestyle and Greco-Roman divisions at the New York AC International on Friday.

Both Outstanding Wrestlers were from the United States, Andy Bisek (Colorado Springs, Colo./Minnesota Storm) at 74 kg/163 lbs. in Greco-Roman and Alli Ragan (Carbondale, Ill./New York AC/King Univ.) at 59 kg/130 lbs. in women’s freestyle. Both were members of the 2013 U.S. Senior World Team.

Ragan also dominated her finals match, scoring a technical fall over Michelle Fazzari of Canada, 7-0. Fazzari had won the New York AC International title the two previous years.

The USA had five Greco-Roman champions, including a pair of 2012 Olympians.

Two-time Olympian Spenser Mango (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) scored a 2-1 victory over Seunghak Kim of Korea, scoring a one-point lift late in the second period for the win.

2012 Olympian Ben Provisor (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) scored two gut wrench tilts in the second period to defeat Josef Rau (Chicago, Ill./Minnesota Storm), 4-0. Provisor was competing up one weight class from where he made the Olympic team.

The other U.S. Greco-Roman champion were two-time U.S. World Team member Joe Betterman (Colorado Springs, Colo./Army WCAP) at 60 kg/132 lbs. and Robbie Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) at 120 kg/264.5 lbs.

Betterman won by technical fall over Hokil Kim of Korea, 9-0, nailing a five-point throw to finish off the match. Smith countered a throw attempt to pin Erik Nye (Colorado Springs, Colo./Army WCAP) in 1:02.

Joining Ragan as a champion in the women’s tournament was her King University teammate Sarah Hildebrandt, (Granger, Ind./King Univ.) who jumped to a 6-0 lead in the first period and went on to defeat Yuuki Ikegame of Japan, 8-4.

The other individual Greco-Roman champions were Takeshi Izumi of Japan at 66 kg/145.5 lbs. and Kevin Mejia Castillo of Honduras at 96 kg/211.5 lbs.

Japan had three women’s champions, Yuki Irie at 48 kg/105.5 lbs., Yuki Ito at 63 kg/138.75 lbs. and Hiroe Suzuki at 72 kg/158.5 lbs. Canada claimed the other two gold medals, Vanessa Brown at 51 kg/112.25 and Dorothy Yates at 67 kg/147.5 lbs.

Yates, a past Junior World medalist, pinned 2008 Olympic bronze medalist Randi Miller (Colorado Springs, Colo. (USA/Army WCAP) in 1:24. Miller made her first appearance on the mat since winning her bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Men’s freestyle will be held on Saturday. The competition begins at 9:00 a.m. and will continue to conclusion. The championship finals is expected to be held at about 4:00 p.m., which is a change from the published schedule.
