Lampe, Bernard win golds at Guelph Open in Canada

GUELPH, Ontario, Canada - U.S. women wrestling stars Alyssa Lampe (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) and Ali Bernard (New Ulm, Minn./Bears WC) won gold medals at the Guelph Open on Saturday.
Lampe, a 2010 U.S. World Team member, won the gold medal at 48 kg/105.5 lbs. beat three Canadian opponents to win the title. She defeated Jasmine Mian of Canada in the finals.
Bernard, a 2008 Olympian and 2009 U.S. World Team member, also had three wins on the way to the title. In the semifinals, she defeated two-time U.S. World Team member Stephany Lee (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids). In the finals, she defeated Canadian Erica Wiebe.
Two U.S. wrestlers won silver medals, Katherine Fulp-Allen (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) at 55 kg/121 lbs. and Trinity Plessinger (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids) at 59 kg/130 lbs.
Fulp-Allen, a past University World champion, won two matches to reach the finals, where she was beaten by two-time Olympic medalist Tonya Verbeek of Canada.
Plessinger also had two victories prior to the finals, including a semifinal win over Schuyler Brown (Montpelier, Va./USOEC). She lost in the finals to Ludmilla Cristea of Moldova.
After losing to Plessinger, Brown bounced back with two wins to capture a bronze medal. She beat Jenna Burkert (Rocky Point, N.Y./USOEC) in the bronze-medal bout.
Also winning a bronze medal was Sara Fulp-Allen (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC) at 48 kg/105.5.lbs.
The Guelph Open is one of the toughest wrestling competitions held in Canada each year. It is a Canadian national team carding tournament, which attracts most of the top competitors from Canada each year.
