The 2009 Brute Scholastic Showcase Presented by the NWCA brings many of the nation's best high school wrestlers together this weekend, April 17-18.
The York Convention Center in York, PA will be the host of this pool-style dual meet tournament for the second straight year.
"We excited to bring the Brute Scholastic Showcase back to York and the York Expo Center. Last year the event was a great success. The staff at the Expo Center, the York County Convention and Visitor's Bureau, Sport York and the local business owners were very hospitable and worked very hard to make sure that the competitors enjoyed their time in York," said NWCA Executive Director Mike Moyer.
The Showcase features wrestlers from grades 9-11. This year 52 state champions and 114 state place winners will be participating in the 18-team tournament.
Maryland leads all entrants with nine state champions and nine state medalists on its team. Team New England has seven state champions on its roster. Pennsylvania and Massachusetts each have six state titlists. Colorado, Indiana, and Virginia follow closely behind with five state champions respectively.
The Showcase, a USA Wrestling Sanctioned Event, also boasts several Cadet and Junior All-Americans and National Champions. Also, nine Prep Nationals All-Americans and 14 New England place winners will be in competition this weekend.
"This event has developed into one of the nation's premier underclassmen events. The future stars of wrestling will be on display at the Showcase," said NWCA President Jim Beichner.
Wrestling begins at 8 a.m. on Friday with team pool matches.
