MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan University assistant wrestling coach Casey Cunningham has accepted a position on Cael Sanderson's coaching staff at Iowa State University.
Cunningham spent seven seasons as an assistant coach at his alma mater. He is CMU's only wrestling national champion, claiming the 157-pound title as a senior in 1999. He was the national runner-up at 142 pounds in 1998. Cunningham is the school's all-time wins leader with 134 career victories.
"Casey obviously meant a lot to this program," said CMU head coach Tom Borrelli. "I can't say enough about what he has done to get the Central Michigan wrestling program headed in the direction that it is now. We wish him well and hope that his career continues down the path he wants it to."
A search for a candidate to complete CMU's coaching staff is underway.
