Green, Gwiazdowski, Telford receive draws for Intercontinental Cup on Sunday

KHASAJVURT, Russia –The final three U.S. men’s freestyle wrestlers have received their draws for Sunday’s action at the Intercontinental Cup in Dagestan on Sunday.
2015 World bronze medalist James Green (Lincoln, Neb./Titan Mercury WC) opens his competition at 70 kg/154 lbs. against veteran Amazat Omurzhanov of Kazakhstan, who was third in last year’s Intercontinental Cup.
Green has won four international medals since he broke through for World bronze just over one year ago, including golds at the Freestyle World Cup and Grand Prix of Spain. He was a star at the Univ. of Nebraska.
Two-time NCAA champion Nick Gwiazdowski (Raleigh, N.C./New York AC/Wolfpack WC) will open against Dmitry Popov of Kazakhstan, a 2015 Military World Championships silver medalist.
Gwiazdowski has been No. 4 on the USA Wrestling national team ladder for the past four years. Since 2015, he has won international gold medals at the Grand Prix of Spain and Bill Farrell International. The “Gwizz” won his NCAA titles for North Carolina State.
2016 U.S. Senior Nationals third-place finisher Bobby Telford (Iowa City, Iowa/Titan Mercury WC) is also competing at 125 kg, and opens against Islam Bakhmudkadiev of Russia/Dagestan, whose top international showing was a silver medal at the 2015 Ramzan Kadyrov Cup in Russia. Telford was a multiple All-American at Iowa before focusing on his freestyle career.

The Intercontinental Cup will award nearly $2,400 in prize money to every champion, $1,600 to all silver medalists and $800 to bronze medalists.
