Five talented U.S. women weigh in and get draws for Golden Grand Prix Finals in Azerbaijan

BAKU, Azerbaijan – Five top U.S. women’s freestyle wrestlers have weighed in and received their draws for the UWW Golden Grand Prix Finals, which continue on Friday.


2016 U.S. World Team member Sarah Hildebrandt (Colorado Springs, Colo./NYAC/OTC), who will compete in the Non-Olympic Weight World Championships in Hungary in two weeks, is using this as a tune-up event at 55 kg/121 lbs. Hildebrandt opens against Poland’s veteran Katarzyna Krawczyk, who was ninth in the 2016 Olympic Games.


Three-time U.S. World Team member Whitney Conder (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army WCAP) will battle 2014 Junior World champion Natalia Malysheva of Russia in her opener at 53 kg/116.5 lbs.


2012 Olympian Kelsey Campbell (Tempe, Ariz./Sunkist Kids) will battle 2015 Asian bronze medalist Zhangting Zhou of China to start out at 58 kg/127.5 lbs.


Two-time Junior World champion Victoria Anthony (Tempe, Ariz./Sunkist Kids) faces Shafag Muradzade of host Azerbaijan, who was third in the UWW Golden Grand Prix Finals in 2010. Anthony was fifth in the 2013 World Championships.


2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials champion Tamyra Mensah (Katy, Texas/Titan Mercury WC) faces 2016 Pan American Championships runner-up Yudari Sanchez Rodriguez of Cuba at 69 kg/152 lbs.


United World Wrestling is provide a live stream of this tournament. Men’s freestyle was held on Thursday with women’s freestyle on Friday and Greco-Roman on Saturday.

The event provides prize money to medalists, including $5,000 for gold, $3,000 for silver and $1,000 for bronzes.


Baku is nine hours ahead of USA Eastern time zone. The preliminary session begins at 10:00 a.m. Baku time, which is 1:00 a.m. in USA Eastern time zone. The finals begin at 5:00 p.m. in Baku, which is 8:00 a.m. Eastern time.
