CALIFORNIAN: Silveira named interim wrestling coach at CSU-Bakersfield

The Bakersfield California reported on Wednesday night that assistant coach Jeff Silveira has been named interim head coach for CSU-Bakersfield, as it continues its national search for a new coach.


Although there was no press release on this posted on the CSUB athletics website, Silveira is listed as interim coach in the wrestling section of the website and in his coaching bio on the site.

Jeff Silveira, who has been an assistant wrestling coach at CSUB the last two seasons, has been named interim head coach while the university continues its national search for the head coach to replace Mike Mendoza, who resigned his Roadrunner position to become Boise State’s head coach.


Prior to arriving at CSUB, Silveira was an assistant coach at San Francisco State for five years. He has also coached at West Valley College and Skyline College, two community colleges in the Bay Area. He has coached 11 seasons at the college level.

Interim Head Coach



Jeff Silveira is currently serving as the interim head wrestling coach at CSU Bakersfield after serving as an assistant coach for the past two seasons with the Roadrunners.


Silveira came to CSU Bakersfield from San Francisco State where he served as an assistant coach from 2009-14. During his stint with the Gators, Silveira coached one Division II national champion, seven Division II All-Americans, 20 Division II National Championship Tournament qualifiers, and helped San Franciso State finish in the top 10 of the 2013 Division II National Tournament.


From 2005-07, Silveira was an assistant wrestling coach at West Valley College before moving to Skyline College for the 2007-08 season. At the community college level, Silveira coached 27 individual state qualifiers, nine individual state placewinners, four individual CCCAA All-Americans, and one individual state champion.


Silveira coached at Saint Teresa High School from 1995-2003 and at The Kings Academy High School from 2004-05. At the prep level, Silveira coached 11 individual league champions, 16 individual section placewinners, 13 individual state qualifiers, four individual state placewinners, and two individual high school All-Americans.
