Patrick Martinez, shown at the 2015 World Championships, won a Greco-Roman bronze at 80 kg today in Madrid, Spain.

MADRID, Spain – 2015 World Team member Patrick Martinez (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army WCAP), won a bronze medal in Greco-Roman at 80 kg/176 lbs., the top U.S. effort at the Grand Prix of Spain.

Martinez opened with a 9-0 technical fall over Juan Jose Ruiz of Spain, the 2015 Mediterranean runner-up. In the semifinals, he was beaten by Fawzy Mahmoud of Egypt, 2-6. As there were just three athletes in his half-bracket, Martinez took a bronze medal without having to wrestle a medal match.

The USA had three members of the U.S. Marine Corps team also competing. Raymond Bunker (Quantico, Va./U.S. Marine Corps) at 71 kg/156 lbs. and Jayshon Wilson (Quantico, Va./U.S. Marine Corps) at 75 kg/165 lbs. both placed ninth after losing their only bouts by decision.

Daniel Miller (Quantico, Va./U.S. Marine Corps) went 0-2 at 98 kg/213 lbs., losing to 2013 World champion Nikita Melnikov of Russia and three-time Olympian Daigoro Timoncino of Italy.

Earlier in the day, the men's freestyle tournament was completed, and the USA had a pair of gold medalists, 2015 World bronze medalist James Green at 70 kg/154 lbs. and David Taylor at 86 kg/189 lbs.

The U.S. women’s team weighs in and gets draws for Sunday, which will be posted when available.
