ELGIN, Ill. - The Judson Athletic Department is excited to announce the return of the men's wrestling program and the hire of new wrestling coach Matt TreDenick.
It has been over 46 years since Judson has had a wrestling team and it is now being reinstated for the 2017-2018 season. Wrestling was one of eight sports Judson offered back in 1967 and continued for three seasons under coach Tom Chase.
"We are very excited to add wrestling to our department, we couldn't be more thrilled to have a coach of Matt's credentials," added Athletic Director Chad Gassman. "He will do an outstanding job recruiting but most importantly he will be an outstanding mentor to our wrestling team."
Coach TreDenick brings in an extensive list of coaching experience that spans 30 plus years in both the high school and collegiate levels. TreDenick has made an impact on numerous athletes having coached several successful wrestlers in the IHSA, IHSAA, MHSAA, and National collegiate levels. The list of high schools include Wheaton Warrenville South, Bartlett, and Cedar Springs in Cedar Spring, Michigan. Among his more successful coaching stints included the head coaching position at Driscoll Catholic High School in Addison, Illinois. TreDenick held the position from 2006-09 and in the four years helped coach five state qualifiers and two state placers. His 2008 team also earned All-Academic. Most recently, Coach TreDenick was hired on as the Assistant Wrestling Coach at Triton College.
"I am honored, thrilled, and thankful to be at Judson where I can share the love of Jesus through the medium of wrestling," said TreDenick.
TreDenick has also been active in the community developing many youth programs that include the Bartlett Junior Hawks in Bartlett, Ill., the Villa Lombard Cougars in Carol Stream, Ill., and the Carson City Youth Wrestling program in Carson City, Michigan.
As an athlete, TreDenick attended Carson City High School in which he was a varsity captain and two-time High School State Wrestling Champion. TreDenick was also honored with a special invite to the Olympic Trials by legendary coach Dan Gable. After high school TreDenick attended Grand Valley State on both a football and wrestling scholarship and was the Chapter President of the FCA. He would later complete his bachelor's degree from Indiana Wesleyan University in Christian Ministries.
