Review of Rio Olympic wrestling medal counts and unofficial standings, overall and by style

TheMat.com has done an extensive review of the results of the wrestling competition at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Included in the review are the medal count standings and the unofficial team standings (based upon World Championships scoring). It includes a review of the overall standings for all three Olympic wrestling disciplines, as well as each of the disciplines separately.

In the review of overall standings, the USA was fifth in the unofficial team standings for all three styles with 56 points, and was seventh in the overall medal count with three medals (2 golds and 1 bronze).

In men’s freestyle, the USA was third in the unofficial team standings with 32 points, and tied for fifth in the medal count with two medals (1 gold and 1 bronze).

In women’s freestyle, the USA was fifth in the unofficial team standings with 22 points, and was tied in seventh in the medal count with one medal (1 gold).

In Greco-Roman, the USA was 26th in the unofficial team standings with two points.

Overall, Russia won the medal count with nine medals (including four golds) and in the unofficial team standings with 96 points. Azerbaijan was second in both the medal count and the unofficial standings, and Japan was third in both the medal count and the unofficial standings.
