Jason Loukides named 2015 USA Wrestling Greco-Roman Coach of the Year

Jason Loukides (Camp LeJeune, N.C./U.S. Marine Corps) has been named 2015 Greco-Roman Coach of the Year by USA Wrestling. It is the first time in his career that Loukides has won this prestigious honor.
Loukides is the head coach of the U.S. Marine Corps team, which is based at Camp LeJeune, N.C. The U.S. Marines placed second at the 2015 Armed Forces Championships in both freestyle and Greco-Roman, behind the U.S. Army team.
He is the personal coach for 2015 World Team member Bryce Saddoris, who has competed at the World Championships for the last two years. Saddoris won his first two matches at the 2015 World Championships in Las Vegas before losing to eventual champion Frank Staebler of Germany. In the repechage, he was ahead of Tarek Benaissa of Algeria when he suffered a severe injury to his face, ultimately losing 4-5.
He also served as a coach for United States CISM World Military Team, which competed in Munyeong, South Korea. Justin Lester of the U.S. Army won a bronze medal in Greco-Roman.
Prior to taking the coaching position with the U.S. Marines, Loukides was the head coach at the Div. I program at the Univ. of North Carolina – Greensboro. He also established the Y.E.S. club in the area, which featured a number of successful Greco-Roman wrestlers. Two of his athletes at UNC-Greensboro continue to excel on the Senior level, wrestling for the Army WCAP program, three-time World Team member Caylor Williams and University World medalist Jamel Johnson.
Loukides was a national-caliber Greco-Roman wrestler with the U.S. Army team. He placed second in the 2001 U.S. Open and the 2001 U.S. World Team Trials, competing at 96 kg. Loukides won a silver medal at the 2003 CISM Military World Championships in freestyle and was fourth in the 1999 CISM Military World Games in Greco-Roman. He was a USA Wrestling All-American on the Senior level in both styles.
He competed at Div. I Edinboro University, coached by Olympic and World champion Bruce Baumgartner, where he was a two-time NCAA qualifier. He served a stint as a graduate assistant coach for Slippery Rock Univ. Originally from Albion, Mich., he was a Michigan state high school champion.
