Burroughs, Gray and Maroulis ranked No. 1 in latest UWW rankings

2016 Olympians Jordan Burroughs (Lincoln, Neb./Sunkist Kids/Nebraska RTC) and Adeline Gray (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC), along with 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials Champion Helen Maroulis (Huntington Beach, Calif./Sunkist Kids), are atop the United World Wrestling rankings for the month of April.
The rankings, which were released before the Olympic Trials this past weekend, include 22 Americans, eight of which were crowned U.S. Olympic Team Trials Champions in Iowa City.
Burroughs continued his reign at the No. 1 spot in freestyle at 74 kg and then cruised to a victory over Andrew Howe at the Olympic Trials this past weekend.
On the women’s freestyle side, Gray continued her dominance of the 75 kg weight class at the Olympic Trials by bulldozing her way through Victoria Francis, outscoring her 21-0 in a pair of finals matches.
Maroulis ranked No. 1 at 55 kg and has the chance to punch her ticket to Rio at the Olympic Qualifier in Mongolia next Friday after running buckshot over the competition in Iowa City at 53 kg.
Men’s Freestyle
Coming in at No. 2 at 97 kg was 2016 Olympic Team member Kyle Snyder (Woodbine, Md./Titan Mercury WC/Ohio RTC). The Maryland native fell down a spot after a third place finish at the Medved International but rebounded with a victory after clashing with No. 17 Jake Varner (Nittany Lion WC) in an epic best-of-three series showdown at the Trials.
2016 Olympic Team member Tervel Dlagnev checked in at No. 15 at 125 kg. Dlagnev recently qualified his weight class for the 2016 Olympic Games by winning the Pan American Qualifier in Frisco, Texas. Dlagnev battled his way through the Trials and defeated Zach Rey, 3-1 and 5-3, in the finals to clinch his Olympic berth.
James Green (Lincoln Neb./ Titan Mercury WC/Nebraska RTC) came in at No. 4 at 70 kg after a second place finish at the Pan American Championships in February. Green won the bronze medal at the 2015 World Championships back in September.
Also cracking the top 15 was Logan Stieber (Columbus, Ohio/Titan Mercury WC/Ohio RTC) who ranks No. 13 at 65 kg. Stieber recently took third at the Medved International.
Also ranked inside the top 20 for the U.S. were No. 16 Aaron Pico (Whittier Calif./Team USA) at 65 kg, No. 17 Tony Ramos (Iowa City, IA/Hawkeye WC)at 57 kg, No. 17 Jake Varner (State College, Pa./Nittany Lion WC) at 97 kg, No. 18 Coleman Scott (Stillwater Okla./Gator WC) at 61 kg, and No. 19 Brent Metcalf (Iowa City, IA/ New York AC/Hawkeye WC) at 65 kg.
Women’s Freestyle
2016 Olympic Team member Elena Pirozhkova (Colorado Springs, Colo. /Titan Mercury WC) ranked No. 9 at 69 kg. Priozhkova took the top spot at 63 kg at the Olympic Trials after defeating No. 17 Erin Clodgo in the finals.
Also making an appearance in this month’s rankings was 2016 Olympic Trials Champion Kelsey Campbell, who checked in at No. 15 at 58 kg. The Tempe, Ariz. native upset the top-ranked Alli Ragan in the finals at Trials and will now travel to Mongolia to attempt to qualify the weight class for the Olympic Games.
Leigh Jaynes-Provisor (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army WCAP) checked in at No. 8 at 60 kg after winning Bronze at the Pan American Championships in February.
Victoria Anthony (Hunting Beach Calif./Sunkist Kids) fell down three spots to No. 11 at 48 kg. Anthony recently won the Klippan Lady Open in Sweeden.
Also ranking inside the top 15 was Sarah Hildebrandt (Granger, Ind./King Univ.) who checks in at No. 14 at 55 kg.
Greco-Roman
2016 Olympic Team member Andy Bisek highlights the rankings for the Americans in Greco-Roman. Bisek came in at No. 5 at 75 kg and will be making the trip to Rio after a hard fought victory over No. 17 Geordan Speiller in the finals at Trials.
Also cracking the top 10 was Justin Lester who ranks No. 8 at 71 kg. Lester won Gold at the Armed Forces Championships at 75 kg.
Other ranked American’s in Greco-Roman included No. 17 Geordan Speiller (Oviedo, Fla./Florida Jets) at 75 kg and No. 18 Jordan Holm (Minneapolis, Minn/Minnesota Storm) at 85 kg.
