Whitney Conder (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army WCAP) has been selected as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week on Oct. 22, 2019.

Earlier this week, Conder won a silver medal at 50 kg/105.5 lbs. in women’s freestyle at the 7th CISM Military World Games, which is a multi-sport event featuring the world’s top military athletes.

Conder won two matches with dominance to reach the finals. She opened with a 9-2 victory over 2019 European bronze medalist Kseniya Stankevich of Belarus, then scored an 11-0 technical fall in the semifinals over 2015 African Cadet champion Nada Ashour of Egypt.

In the gold-medal finals, Conder fell to 2018 CISM Military Wrestling World Championships champion Li Yuan of China, 6-5.

This is Conder’s first CISM Military World Games medal, but she also boasts a 2014 CISM Military World Wrestling Championships silver medal. A two-time Pan American Games champion, Conder has competed on five U.S. Senior World Teams.

Each week USA Wrestling will select an Athlete of the Week based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling from youth programs through the senior level. Twitter fan votes also play a part in decision.

To nominate a wrestler for this honor please send the athlete's name, wrestling program, weekly accomplishments and career accolades to USA Wrestling Communications Coordinator Taylor Miller at tmiller@usawrestling.org.
