Mason Parris (Lawrenceburg, Ind./Indiana Gold) has been selected as TheMat.com Athlete of the Week on April 10, 2017.

The Indiana native continued his stellar postseason campaign with a masterful outing at the NWCA/USAW National Scholastic Duals held in Crawfordsville, Ind. last weekend. Parris posted an unblemished 7-0 record at 220 pounds to guide Indiana Gold to a third-place finish in the dual-meet competition.

Parris recorded six falls and one technical fall over the course of the tournament. His combined fall time totaled six pins in 10 minutes and 59 seconds. For his phenomenal efforts, Parris was named Outstanding Wrestler at the NWCA/USAW National Scholastic Duals.

Two weekends ago, Parris powered his way through the 220-pound bracket at FloNationals to claim his first title at the major national event. All four of his bouts at FloNationals resulted in bonus point victories.

Parris is a two-time Indiana state champion and three-time state placer for Lawrenceburg High School. He owns a 105-0 record over the last two years of high school competition.

Flowrestling slots Parris as the No. 5 ranked high school wrestler at 220 pounds at the conclusion of his junior year.

Parris is also a highly-touted recruit on the gridiron as an inside linebacker, already receiving offers from NCAA Division I institutions. He has yet to make a decision on which college he will attend and if he will play football or wrestle at the next level.

Each week USA Wrestling will select an Athlete of the Week based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling from youth programs through the senior level.

To nominate a wrestler for this honor please send the athlete’s name, wrestling program and weekly and career accomplishments to Richard Immel at rimmel@usawrestling.org.
