Cody Pfau (Parachute, Colo./Oklahoma City University) has been selected as TheMat.com Athlete of the Week on Feb. 15, 2016.

Pfau successfully defended her 109-pound national title and helped lead OCU to a national runner-up finish at the WCWA Women’s College Nationals over the weekend.

Entering the tournament as the No. 1 seed, Pfau scorched the field, pinning all five of her opponents including a second period fall over Breonah Neal of King in the championship finals. Pfau avenged a loss to Neal from earlier in the season.

Pfau, a junior, was named Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament and was awarded the Outstanding Wrestler of the Year for the WCWA. She is now a three-time WCWA All-American with one year of eligibility remaining.

In total, Pfau owns 34 victories by fall this season, the most in OCU history. She finished the year 42-1 against collegiate competition.

In December, Pfau won the U.S. Senior Nationals held in Las Vegas, Nev. qualifying herself for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in April. She is a three-time U.S. Junior World Team member.

Each week USA Wrestling will select an Athlete of the Week based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.

To nominate a wrestler for USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week please send the athlete’s name, wrestling program and weekly and career accomplishments to Richard Immel at rimmel@usawrestling.org.
