Joey McKenna named USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week

Joey McKenna (Stanford University) has been selected as TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for Nov. 23, 2015.
McKenna improved his collegiate record to 7-0 on Sunday after securing a 7-3 victory over Penn State All-American Jimmy Gulibon.
The true freshman has emerged as a top threat in the NCAA ranks at 141 pounds for the Cardinal. McKenna currently sits at No. 5 in the Flowrestling 141-pound rankings.
His win over Gulibon marks the second time this year that McKenna has defeated a wrestler who was ranked No. 1 at 141 pounds. He also took out preseason No. 1 Evan Henderson of North Carolina 4-3 in the finals of the Hokie Open on Nov. 8.
McKenna won a silver medal for the U.S. in men’s freestyle at the 2014 Junior World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia. He is a two-time U.S. Junior World Team member and one-time U.S. Cadet World Team member.
