Chris Perry of Oklahoma State named USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week
by Craig Sesker USA Wrestling
Chris Perry (Stillwater, Okla./Oklahoma State University) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.
The top-seeded Perry defeated past NCAA champion and No. 2 seed Andrew Howe of Oklahoma 4-0 to capture the 174-pound title at the NCAA Championships on Saturday night in Oklahoma City.
Perry, a senior, won his second straight national title. He led the Cowboys to a third-place team finish. Perry placed third at NCAAs as a sophomore.
Perry joins his brother, Mark, as a two-time NCAA champion. Mark Perry won two national titles for Iowa.
Chris Perry is a past Junior World bronze medalist in freestyle wrestling who placed overseas in a pair of international events this past summer on the Senior level.
Note: To nominate a wrestler for TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week, send the athlete's name, accomplishments for the week and career accomplishments to Craig Sesker at csesker@usawrestling.org
