Adam Coon (Fowlerville, Mich./Team USA) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week.

Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.

Coon captured a bronze medal for the United States at the FILA Junior World Championships on Aug. 6 in Zagreb, Croatia.

Coon pinned Japan’s Arata Sonodo just 45 seconds into the match to earn a Greco-Roman bronze medal at 120 kg/264.5 lbs.
Coon won his second career age-group World medal, after claiming a gold medal in freestyle at the 2011 FILA Cadet World Championships.

Coon pinned Stepan David of the Czech Republic in 45 seconds in the first round and also pinned Adam Mertse of Hungary in the quarterfinals.
Coon came from behind in the second round to defeat Seungchan Lee of Korea 8-5.

In his semifinal match, 2013 Junior World champion Sergei Semenov of Russia downed Coon by an 8-0 technical fall. Semenov went on to win the gold medal.

Coon won a USA Wrestling Junior Triple Crown in 2013 and was an NCAA qualifier for Michigan as a true freshman in 2014.

Coon will compete in the FILA Junior World freestyle competition later in the week in Croatia.
