Jakeway, Nelson, Porter and DuLaney Collect Wins on Day One of Thor Masters

NYKØBING FALSTER, Denmark – The opening day of the 2026 Thor Masters wrapped up with William Jakeway, Duncan Nelson, Jesse Porter and Christian DuLaney all winning their opening matches at Guldboxen in Nykøbing Falster, Denmark.


2021 World Team member Porter won his first match at 82 kg after reigning World bronze medalist Karlo Kodric of Croatia defaulted due to injury in the second half of the match. Porter concludes the round robin at 82 kg against Oliver Krüger of Denmark and then faces fellow American Fritz Schierl. Schierl lost a 9-1 contest to Krüger on Friday and faces Kodric on Saturday before taking on Porter.


At 55 kg, Jakeway posted a 7-4 victory over Sweden’s Pontus Ståhl. Jakeway and Ståhl are the lone competitors in the weight class and will face off again on Saturday to wrap up the best-of-three series.


National Team member Nelson posted an opening round shutout of Jonathan Jedell of Sweden in a 3-0 decision. Nelson continues action at 67 kg against Peru’s Nilton Sito on day two of the tournament.


DuLaney had a strong start at 97 kg after beating three-time World participant Aleksandar Stjepanetic of Sweden in a tight 5-3 match. DuLaney was unable to keep the momentum going in his second match of the day and was edged by Austria’s Daniel Gasti, 6-0. DuLaney is back in action against two-time World competitor Mimdaugas Venckaitis of Lithuania on Saturday morning.

Competition continues tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. local time/5:30 a.m. ET. Finals are slated to begin at 4:30 p.m. local time/11:30 a.m. ET.
