Sam Temko (Half Moon Bay, Calif./Skyline College) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for Sept. 14-20.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.
Temko won the 184-pound title and was named the Outstanding Wrestler at the Sacramento City College Tournament on September 18. He won four matches on the way to the title, including two pins. In the finals, he defeated Jesse Hellinger of Sacramento City by pin in 2:45.
This was the first major tournament of the California Junior College wrestling season.
Temko is a sophomore and is competing in his first season at Skyline College. He previously wrestled collegiately at Cal Poly. Temko competed at Half Moon Bay High School, where he won league and sectional titles.
