Les Sigman (State College, Pa./Nittany Lion WC) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for Nov. 3-9.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.
Sigman cashed in at the Hargobind International, knocking off Olympian Steve Mocco in three periods to win the freestyle title at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. on Nov. 7 in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada.
Sigman won the first period against Mocco after putting Mocco to his back. Mocco won the second period before Sigman won the third period for the victory.
Sigman earned $2,000 for winning his weight class. He pocketed an additional $5,000 for beating 96 kg/211.5 lbs. champion Bryce Hasseman in a challenge match between men's freestyle winners for additional bonus money.
Hasseman won the first period, and had the offensive clinch in the second period, but Sigman was able to come out on top to tie it up. Sigman won the deciding third period.
