Bubba Jenkins named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for Aug. 21-27

Bubba Jenkins (Virginia Beach, Va./Penn State WC) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for Aug. 21-27.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level. The announcement will be made each week on Wednesday.
Jenkins won a gold medal at 66 kg/145.5 lbs at the Junior World Championships in freestyle wrestling on Sunday night, Aug. 26 in Beijing, China.
Jenkins defeated European Junior champion Okay Koksal of Turkey 1-0, 3-0 in the championship finals.
Jenkins pinned Armenia's Samvel Adyan, beat Kazakhstan's Nurlan Bekhanov 0-1, 4-0, 4-2 and downed Iran's Saied Dadashpour 2-0, 6-0 en route to reaching the finals of the Junior Worlds.
Jenkins went 23-12 and qualified for the 2007 NCAA Championships at 157 pounds during his freshman year at Penn State. He went 1-2 at his first NCAA tournament. Jenkins reportedly plans to drop down to 149 for his sophomore season in college.
