Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota Blue win pools at Junior Freestyle National Duals

TULSA, Okla.—The first day of the Junior Freestyle National Duals featured pool competition, setting up Thursday’s Gold/Silver pool competition. Pool winners were Wisconsin (Pool A), Iowa (Pool B), Illinois (Pool C) and Minnesota Blue (Pool D).

Wisconsin won the Pool A finals, defeating Oklahoma Red 45-19. Wisconsin captured 10 of the 15 match wins in the dual, including nine bonus point victories.

In the Pool B finals, Iowa edged out Oklahoma Blue 35-31 in a close matchup. The back-and-forth dual saw Iowa win eight of the 15 matches. Iowa was strong in the 170, 182, 195 and 220 pound weight classes, as they were able to string together a run that included three technical falls.

Illinois held on for a win in the Pool C finals, bringing down Ohio Scarlet 41-26. Ten of the 15 matches belonged to Illinois, including five bonus point wins. Illinois went on a six-match run between the 220 and 120 weight classes.

Pool D was claimed by Minnesota Blue, as the team defeated Idaho 45-20. Minnesota Blue won 10 of the 15 matches.

The top two teams in each pool advanced to the Gold/Silver pool, which will determine the top eight teams in the tournament. Placing second in their pools were Oklahoma Red (Pool A), Oklahoma Blue (Pool B) and Ohio Scarlet (Pool C) and Idaho (Pool D).

Based upon results in the preliminary pools, competition on Saturday will be in the color pools: Gold/Silver pool, Bronze/Copper pool, Red/Blue pool, Green/Yellow pool and Purple. Action is slated to begin at 8 a.m. CT.
