USA Wrestling is excited to announce the hire of Savannah Asmann of Castle Rock, Colo. to the national staff as Communications Coordinator. She began working full-time with the organization in late May.
"USA Wrestling is blessed to have Savannah Asmann join our communications team,” said Gary Abbott, USA Wrestling Director of Communications and Special Projects. “She brings a strong skill set in a variety of communications activities, with both a Master's degree in the industry and hands-on work experience within college athletics. Her passion for wrestling and commitment to excellence will make a big difference in helping USA Wrestling reach new heights in its communications efforts."
At 23-years-old Asmann brings an impressive amount of industry-specific work experience and a top-notch educational background to the USA Wrestling Communications Department.
Directly prior to joining USA Wrestling at its national office in Colorado Springs, Colo., Asmann worked nearly two years in the Augustana University Athletics Department in Sioux Falls, S.D. as Graduate Assistant of Athletics Communications. Augustana is a NCAA Division II member institution.
During her time with Augustana, Asmann was expected to wear many hats. She worked on a wide array of communications projects including the creation of promotional materials such as press releases, team programs and statistical information, as well as handling all aspects of media relations for the teams under her stewardship, including wrestling.
In May of this year, Asmann graduated from Augustana with a Master of Sports Administration and Leadership degree. She completed her undergraduate degree in May of 2021, a Bachelor of Arts in Communication with a Minor in Music, at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, N.D.
"I’m excited to be a part of the Communications team at USA Wrestling and to continue to be a part of the wrestling community,” Asmann said. “This position provides opportunities for me to work with great people and some of the best athletes in the world. I’m grateful for the experiences that I have had working in wrestling and look forward to making an impact in the future."
While completing her undergraduate program, Asmann worked as Video Production and Media Intern for the University of North Dakota Athletics Department where she developed digital content to increase fan engagement and enhance the overall fan experience for the Fighting Hawks.
Asmann also worked as Communications Intern and Radio Disc Jockey and Announcer for iHeart Media in Grand Forks from Jan. 2019 to Jan. 2020. She gained valuable experience conducting interviews with individuals of all types (celebrities, politicians, athletes and newsmakers), created daily content to be used on iHeart Media digital platforms, helped manage company social media channels and participated in community events.
In addition, she brings valuable experience as a Committee Member of the International Collegiate Advisory Committee on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion where she worked with Alpha Phi Sorority to help shape educational D.E.I. initiatives and develop executive positions to further the advancement of the social culture within the sorority.
