Max Schierl Takes Down Sam Edelblute at the 2023 U23 Greco-Roman Nationals

The final matchups are set at the 2023 U23 Greco-Roman Nationals in Geneva, Ohio, at Spire Academy.

Starting the first finals match of the day are No. 1 Yusief Lillie and No. 2 Davian Guanajuato. Lillie reached the finals with a 7-0 decision over No. 5 Kade Orr and Guanajuato brought down No. 3 Christian Decatur-Luker to reach the finals matchup.
The finals match at 60 kg will feature 2022 U23 champion Phillip Moomey and 2022 U20 champion Jonathan Gurule. Gurule made the move up to U23 after besting the competition last year in the U20 division and advanced to face Moomey by defeating No. 2 Paxton Creese in the semifinals.
At 63 kg, fifth-seeded Kyle Rowan bested No. 1 King Sandoval in an 11-6 decision contest. He will challenge No. 2 Jordan Hamdan in the finals after Hamdan defeated No. 3 Jeremy Bockert by 10-6 decision.
Top-seeded David Stepanian of Michigan is slated to face Max Schierl in the final matchup at 67 kg. Both wrestlers reached the matchup via tech fall, with Stepanian defeating No. 5 James Dalrymple and Schierl gaining the victory over No. 3 Samuel Edelbute.
No. 1 Hunter Lewis of North Carolina draws No. 3 Jack Ervien, Jr. of Washington in the finals at 72 kg.
At 77 kg, returning champion Payton Jacobson teched Julian Beltran to roll into the finals. Jacobson is slated to face sixth-seeded Caleb Fish in session two.
It’s No. 1 Tyler Eischens versus No. 2 Tyler Dow in the final bout at 82 kg. Eischens brought down No. 4 Danny Braunagel in the semifinals and Dow bested No. 6 Edmond Ruth to advance to the finals.
The final match at 87 kg will feature two wrestlers that completed upsets in the semifinal matchups. Michael Atolmer defeated No. 5 Connor Collins by technical fall and draws Keenen Wyatt in the final.
No. 4 Thomas Godbee will challenge Tereus Henry in the final contest at 97 kg. Henry reached the finals after defeating No. 2 Eli Pannell by 7-3 decision.
Rounding out the final matchup of the U23 Nationals is No. 1 Spencer Trenary who will take on No. 2 Kaleb Reeves at 130 kg.
Winners of this tournament qualify to be on the U23 U.S. World Team, except in weight classes where a U23 eligible wrestler is on the Senior National Team. In that case, the Senior National Team member can elect to take the U23 World Team spot.
The finals and all medal matches will begin at 4 p.m. Friday afternoon and can be streamed on FloWrestling.
