Greco-Roman and women’s freestyle champions crowned at Last Chance World Team Trials Qualifier

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – Champions were determined in Greco-Roman and women’s freestyle on the first day of the Last Chance World Team Trials Qualifier on Friday.
At this event, the regulations stipulate that “the highest placed USA athlete per weight category winning a medal who has yet to qualify will earn a spot in the 2022 World Team Trials Challenge Tournament.”
Jessy Williams of the Spartan Combat RTC, who was second in the 2018 U.S. Open, won the 67 kg weight class in Greco-Roman, with a two-match sweep of a best-of-three series over Logan Hatch, 7-0 and 6-0.
At 55 kg, Jonathan Gurule of the NMU-National Training Center won a four-athlete round robin with a 3-0 record. Gurule was third in the 2022 U.S. Open.
Chad Walsh of New Jersey, who was a college star for Rider, won the 77 kg weight class, including a 48 second pin in the finals over Terrance Parks of New York.
The champion at 82 kg was Adrian Artsisheuskiy of Elite Wrestling Academy, who scored a technical fall over Aaron Dobbs of NMU-National Training Center, 8-0 in the finals. Artsisheuskiy was second in the 2022 U20 Greco-Roman Nationals.
Other individual Greco-Roman champions were Garrett Totten of New Jersey (60 kg), Diego Romero of Florida (63 kg), Noah Wachsmuth of Colorado (72 kg), Gevorg Arakelov of New York (87 kg), Timothy Eubanks of Nevada (97 kg) and Tom Foote of the New York Athletic Club (130 kg).
In the women’s freestyle, the 50 kg weight class had the most entries. The U23 Nationals champion and Outstanding Wrestler Nyla Valencia of California won a four-athlete round robin with three technical falls. Valencia defeated another of the highest-ranked girls high school wrestlers in the nation, Alexandra Szkotnicki of HeadHunters WC of Maryland, 10-0, with Szkotnicki taking second.
King University stars Ana Luciano of King (68 kg) and Montana Delawder (59 kg) won their weights, as did Augsburg wrestlers Sierra Bron Ton (65 kg) and Melissa Jacobs (76 kg) Alexandria Liles of the US Army, who was eighth at the U.S. Open, qualified at 62 kg. Other women’s champions were Janieliz Cotto (Krazy Monkey Wrestling Club at 53 kg), Torieonna Buchanan (Red Cobra Wrestling Academy at 55 kg), Genesis Ramirez (All Navy Wrestling at 57 kg) and Skie Roulo (Cougar Wrestling Club at 72 kg).
