Pennsylvania Blue, California, Ohio and Wisconsin Red win preliminarily pools at 16U National Freestyle Duals

LOVES PARK, Ill. — National championship dreams continued for some and ended for others.
A search for a freestyle national championship started with the freestyle preliminary pool competitions at the 16U National Duals in Loves Park, Ill. on Friday.
Pennsylvania Blue closed out its successful run through Pool C l with a 48-29 win over Illinois. Pennsylvania Blue became one of four teams to win their pool, and advance to Saturday’s Gold/Silver Pool, which determines the top eight teams.
California collected two technical falls in its final two bouts to defeat Florida, 37-35, to win the B Pool. Ohio outlasted Iowa 41-30 to win Pool C. In Pool D, Wisconsin beat Minnesota Blue, 42-29.
The second-place squads in each pool join the winners in the Gold/Silver Pool. Two pools held true second place duals to decide the spots. The Gold/Silver Pool is split into two pools, which will determine the medal matches among the top eight teams.
In Pool A, Illinois dec. Team Michigan Blue, 49-19 to gain the true second place. Oklahoma Blue defeated Minnesota Blue, 41-35 in Pool D’s true second place dual. The other second place teams to advance to the Gold/Silver pool were Florida from Pool B and Iowa from Pool C.
A round or two of the color pools will begin on Friday. The tournament concludes Saturday at 9 a.m. with the completion of the color pools and finals placement matches.
