World medalists Colon, Gwiazdowski highlight delegation headed to Warsaw, July 20-24

USA Wrestling is sending a delegation of 18 men’s freestyle athletes to the Waclaw Ziolkowski Memorial International in Warsaw, Poland, July 20-24.

While all three styles will be contested at the event, the U.S. is only sending representatives in men’s freestyle next week. The tournament opens with freestyle action on Wednesday and Thursday.

The delegation is led by a pair of Senior World bronze medalists in Joe Colon at 61 kg and Nick Gwiazdowski at 125 kg. Colon earned his bronze in 2018, while Gwiazdowski put together back-to-back bronze-medal performances in 2017 and 2018.

They will be joined by several age-group World medalists, including U23 World champion Anthony Cassioppi (125 kg), Junior World champion David Carr (74 kg), Cadet and Junior World silver medalist Vito Arujau (57 kg) and U23 World bronze medalists Joey McKenna (65 kg) and Jay Aiello (97 kg).

Pan American champions Alec Pantaleo (70 kg) and Nate Jackson (92 kg) and past age-group World Team members Yahya Thomas (65 kg) and David McFadden (79 kg) are expected to compete.

Rounding out the roster are NCAA standouts Austin DeSanto (61 kg), Daniel Deshazer (61 kg), Matthew Kolodzik (65 kg), Alex Marinelli (79 kg), Mike Machiavello (97 kg) and Derek White (125 kg) as well as Tony Tolbert (65 kg).
