Dan Gable Donnybrook adds a Girls Division for high school teams, Dec. 1-3, 2022 in Coralville, Iowa

CORALVILLE (January 28, 2022) – Following in the footsteps of an historic week in girls and womens wrestling with the announcement of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union sanctioning girls wrestling, 700 girls competing in the IWCOA Iowa Girls High School Wrestling Tournament, and UWW combining the mens and womens Freestyle World Cup into one event next December at Xtream Arena in Coralville, the Dan Gable Donnybrook will also add a girls division.

“We had planned for a girls division in 2020, but unfortunately had to cancel due to COVID. Now’s the right time to make this the premier boys AND girls high school wrestling tournament in the country,” said Luke Eustice, Director of the Iowa City Area Sports Commission. “With the IGHSAU sanctioning girls wrestling it makes the logistics work easier.”

33 high school boys teams from across the Midwest competed in the inaugural tournament in December 2021. Scheduled for December 1-3, 2022, at Xtream Arena in Coralville, the girls tournament will take place all day Thursday and Friday morning, with the finals on Friday evening. The boys tournament will start on Friday, run all day Saturday with the finals on Saturday evening. The tournament is looking to expand to 42 boys teams and 32 girls teams.

“It is three days of the best high school wrestling you’ll be able to see under one roof,” added Nathan Eichorst, Tournament Director. “It doesn’t get better than this.”

The tournament format is an individual invitational. Teams are invited, but wrestlers will be seeded and bracketed to compete individually and earn points for their team.

Teams interested in entering the tournament should contact Luke Eustice at 319-337-6592.
