Wisconsin RTC to battle Germany U20 team in Badger State Clash, April 14, broadcast live on Rokfin

by Gary Abbott, USA Wrestling

The Wisconsin Regional Training Center will battle the Germany U23 team in the Badger State Clash on Thursday, April 14 at Waunakee High School.

A U20 team from Germany arrived in Madison, Wis., on April 5 to train at the Wisconsin RTC, and has been working out with U.S. athletes from the RTC. The Badger State Clash will be the featured competition at the end of the German team’s visit to the USA.

There will be an undercard with eight matches, starting at 6:00 p.m. Central time, with a main card of nine matches to follow at 7:00 p.m. The event will be broadcast live on the Wisconsin RTC Rokfin Channel (rokfin.com/wiscrtc).

All of the German wrestlers who will be featured on the main card have competed for Germany at either an age-group World Team or at an age-group European Championships.

A featured match will be at 92 kg, when 2021 Junior World freestyle champion and Greco-Roman bronze medalist Braxton Amos of the Wisconsin RTC will battle Johannes Mayer, who has wrestled on German World Teams at the U23, Junior and Cadet levels. Mayer was recently second in the 2022 European U23 Championships.

Amos, who wrestles for the University of Wisconsin, is joined on the Wisconsin RTC team by a number of other wrestlers who have represented the USA on either an age-group World Team or Pan American team, or both.

James Rowley of Oregon, a 2021 Cadet World silver medalist, will battle German 2021 Cadet World Team member Daniel Fischer at 86 kg.

At 74 kg, Cale Anderson of Wisconsin, a 2018 Cadet World Team member in Greco-Roman, faces Stas David Wolf, at 2021 German Junior World Team member and 2021 European Junior bronze medalist.

Brock Bobzien of California, a 2021 Cadet World team member, will battle Adrian Barnowski, who was fifth at the 2018 European Cadet Championships, at 70 kg.

Greyson Clark of Wisconsin, a 2019 Pan American U15 champion in both styles, faces tough Nico Megerle, who has wrestled on German Senior, U23 and Junior World Teams.

A Youth Wrestling Clinic, featuring international coaches, will be held prior to the event in the Waunakee High School wrestling room, from 4-6 p.m. This is geared for athletes in Grades K-8. The fee for the clinic is $50 per wrestler, and also includes a ticket for the Badger State Clash.

Matside seats for the Badger State Clash are $75, with General Admission tickets at $15 for adults and $10 for youth. Tickets for the clinic, as well as tickets for the event, can be ordered online:
