USA Wrestling is pleased to announce the athletes who have already qualified for the 2022 World Team Trials process, which will determine the U.S. Senior World Team which will compete at the Senior World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, September 10-18.
At this time, there are 225 athletes who have qualified for either the World Team Trials Challenge Tournament or Final X for 2022. That includes 74 Greco-Roman wrestlers, 79 women’s freestyle wrestlers and 74 men’s freestyle wrestlers. (Two athletes are qualified in both styles).
This past weekend, 28 athletes were added in, 10 in men’s freestyle, 10 in Greco-Roman and eight in women’s freestyle. The top U.S. place winner in each weight class who had not already qualified for the World Team Trials at the Bill Farrell Memorial in Cedar Falls, Iowa has advanced.
Note: Athletes who placed in the men’s college nationals at a certain level are eligible for the Greco-Roman portion of the World Team Trials Challenge Tournament. This includes the top five in each weight at the NCAA Div. I Championships, as well as the top three in each weight class at the NCAA Div. II Nationals, NCAA Div. III Nationals, NAIA Nationals and NJCAA Nationals. Athletes must notify Gary Abbott at gabbott@usawrestling.org to be added to the list if they plan to compete in Greco-Roman.
Qualifiers are determined based upon the approved World Team Trials Procedures for each of the Olympic disciplines, which are posted in the National Teams section of USA Wrestling’s website HERE.
The next qualifying event is the U.S. Senior Nationals in all three disciplines in Las Vegas, Nev., April 28-30.
