Luft places fourth at Cadet Beach World Championships in Romania, as three U.S. women compete in event

Lilly Luft of Charles City, Iowa placed fourth at 60 kg in the women’s division of the Cadet Beach World Championships, held in Constanta, Romania on Thursday.


Luft won her Pool C competition with a 3-0 record, securing victories over Oleksandra Zhulidova of Ukraine, 3-0, Valeriia Dmytrenko of Ukraine, 4-1 and Sofia Marchenko of Ukraine, 1-0,


She advanced to the semifinals, where she was defeated by Viorica Adam of Romania. In her bronze-medal bout, Luft dropped a battle to Gabriella Cuc of Romania, 3-1.


Placing eighth at 50 kg was Isabella Hoffman of Tega Cay, S.C., who had a 1-2 record in her pool and did not advance to the bracket competition. She opened with a 3-0 win over Denisa Perju of Romania, then dropped matches to Delia Voiculescu of Romania and Emine Osman of Bulgaria.


Isabelle Carrington of Dayton, Ohio was randomly drawn into a knockout match at 70 kg, which she needed to win to advance into Pool B. She was beaten 3-0 by Georgiana Andries of Romania, and finished 10th in the final standings.


Although there have been an individual athlete that competed in the Cadet Beach Worlds, this is the first team to enter on behalf of USA Wrestling. The USA did not have any entries in the men's division.


The U.S. will enter two women in the Junior World Beach Championships which will be held on Friday. The Final Beach World Series event, featuring Senior athletes, will be held Saturday and Sunday, and the U.S. will have a team of both men and women.
