J Robinson Intensive Wrestling Camps, founded in 1978, announces the permanent closure of all of its camps

MINNEAPOLIS, November 16, 2021 – Today, J Robinson Intensive Camps, the largest wrestling camp system in the nation, announced the permanent closure of all summer camps. The COVID-19 virus and ensuing pandemic forced business operations to halt in 2020 and 2021, resulting in a devastating financial impact on the company’s ability to relaunch.
Founded in 1978 by National Wrestling Hall of Fame member J Robinson, the legendary camps trained over 60,000 wrestlers with a unique philosophy focusing on physical preparation, mental toughness, and life skills development.
A former Assistant Wrestling Coach at the University of Iowa, 3x NCAA Champion Head Coach at the University of Minnesota, United States Olympian, and Vietnam veteran, Robinson used his training as an Army Airborne Ranger as the inspiration for his camp system.
J Robinson Intensive Camps are best known for the iconic 28-Day Intensive Camp — known as the most challenging athletic camp in the country for more than four decades — and for the I DID IT shirt, an award for athletes who earned enough points during camp through hard work to qualify.
“I am extremely proud of the lives changed by our camps,” said founder J Robinson. “It is very disappointing to have to end a training camp that positively changes kids’ lives in a world that doesn’t offer any rite of passage.” “Wrestlers are a different breed, the kids who took these camps on and earned the I DID SHIRT developed a work ethic that will last their entire lives.”
