Greco-Roman wrestling finishes up at the U23 World Championships with group two finals

BELGRADE, Serbia – Greco-Roman wrestling at the 2021 U23 World Championships completed on Wednesday night as Group Two of Greco wrestling wrapped up its finals. Russia captured the team title with 190 total points.


Iran finished second in the team race with 155 points, with Georgia rounding out the top three with 105 total team points.


The United States finished tied with Moldova for 16th with 18 team points. No U.S. athletes were in the medal round on Wednesday night. Nate Moore, a wrestler at Northern Colorado, officially finished 10th for the U.S. at 72 kg. Nicholas Boykin of Ohio State, who won his opening-round match against Gerard Kurniczak of Poland, finished 12th at 97 kg.


Russia had two individual champions in the final Greco-Roman session – Anvar Allakhiarov at 60 kg and Artur Sargsian at 97 kg.


Taylor Lamont was Team USA’s highest finisher – 5th at 55 kg – after making the semifinals. This week, Lamont was competing on his eighth career age-group World team.


Wrestling for Team USA continues tomorrow with more women’s freestyle action. Men’s freestyle competition in Serbia begins on Friday.
