All three American women’s freestyle wrestlers competing Thursday at the Poland Open will wrestle for bronze later today. Both Erin Golston (50kg) and Dymond Guilford (76kg) won repechage matches against 2016 Olympians to secure their spots in bronze medal matches. Jen Page (62kg) was pulled back into the tournament and will join Golston and Guilford in wrestling for bronze in Warsaw during the 12:00 p.m. EST session.

Golston’s day began with a first-period fall against Poland’s Weronika Sikora, a quick start to the day for Team USA. Golston dropped her quarterfinal match to two-time World champion and three-time Olympic medalist Mariya Stadnik of Azerbaijan, but was pulled back into repechage when Stadnik made the finals.

In the repechage match, Golston defeated two-time World silver medalist and 2016 Olympian Emilia Vuc of Romania. Golston trailed in the match early, but secured momentum after a takedown and gut wrench put her into the lead early in the first period. Golston kept scoring and ultimately cruised to a 10-5 win to earn a chance to wrestle for bronze. She will face Russia’s Mariia Tiumerekova, a five-time age group World medalist.

Guilford, the 2021 Senior Nationals champion at 76 kg, dropped a hard-fought battle with Germany’s 2016 Olympian Aline Rotter Focken in the opening round of the tournament. Rotter Focken, a 2014 World champion and 2017 World silver medalist, posted a 5-0 win over Guilford and went on to defeat Canada’s Erica Wiebe, a 2016 Olympic gold medalist, in the semis to pull Guilford back into the tournament.

In Guilford’s repechage match, she was dominant against Brazil’s Aline Da Silva Ferreira, a 2014 World silver medalist and 2016 Olympian. Guilford scored her first takedown at the buzzer in the first period, a hard-fought single leg finish that built major momentum going into the second. There, she scored a four-point takedown and transitioned right into a leg lace, closing out an impressive 12-1 win. Wrestling for bronze, Guilford will match up against Wiebe.

Page, the 2020 Senior Nationals champion at 62 kg, dropped her Thursday match to Ana Paula Godinez Gonzalez of Canada, 9-0. Gonzalez, the 2019 Junior World bronze medalist at 62 kg, opened up a quick lead and finished off a 9-0 win. Gonzalez won in the semifinals, pulling Page back into the tournament to wrestle for bronze. Page will face Ilona Prokopevniuk of Ukraine. Prokopevniuk is a three-time U23 World medalist.

Today’s action resumes at 12:00 p.m. EST and will be streamed live on FloWrestling.
