Greco-Roman star Kamal Bey (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army WCAP/IRTC) has signed with the Illinois Regional Training Center.

Bey, who was 2017 Junior World champion and 2018 Senior World Team member, is originally from Illinois, where he was a star at powerhouse Oak Park and River Forest High School. Bey completed high school in Colorado and then trained in Colorado Springs at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center. Most recently, Bey became a member of the U.S. Army World Class Athlete Program.

“It feels great to be a part of the IRTC. As an Illinois native, I feel right home with teammates and coaches I can trust," Bey said. “Time to get to work.”

In addition to his 2017 Junior World gold medal, Bey was seventh in the 2018 Senior World Championships and fifth in the 2018 Junior World Championships. Bey won a silver medal at the 2019 Pan American Championships. Bey has won four U.S. Senior Open national titles

“Growing up in the Illinois system, Kamal has had a lot of success. This is going to be a great partnership as we have an opportunity to give him the resources he needs to chase that Olympic Gold,” said IRTC head coach Bryan Medlin.

“He is going to be a great influence on the next generation of Illinois athletes. With his partnership with the Army WCAP Program and the IRTC, I truly feel the last couple of pieces to the puzzle just fell into the puzzle. Watch out!,” Medlin said.
